Git Large File Storage (Git LFS) is now available on our GitLab instance. It allows you to store large files, such as binaries, datasets, 3D models, and other large assets, without significantly increasing the size of your Git repository.
How to use Git LFS
Install Git LFS on your workstation: https://git-lfs.com/ and initialize Git LFS by running:
git lfs install
Navigate to your Git repository and specify which file types should be tracked by Git LFS. For example:
git lfs track "*.zip"
Commit the generated .gitattributes file and your files as usual, then push your changes to GitLab.
Example:
git add .gitattributes
git add my-large-file.zip
git commit -m "Add large file using Git LFS"
git push
Other team members should also install Git LFS on their workstations to download and work with LFS-managed files.
Important: Git LFS must be configured in each repository for the file types you want to manage with it. Existing files already committed to Git are not automatically migrated to Git LFS.
For more information, see the GitLab Git LFS documentation.
